This week in writing I have been learning about food safety, specifically food storage. I wrote this food article to show you how you can be safe around these foods.
One of the things we can do to be safe when working with food is to store food properly. This includes being careful with perishable foods, dry goods and fresh fruit and vegetables.
The ideal temperature for dry goods is 50°F or 70° is adequate. Store dry goods in canned jars or plastic freezer containers. The shelf life of dry foods is 4 months to 1 year. Store the food into a clean insect proof jar.
The ideal temperature for fruit and veg is 32 – 55°F or lower. The recommended food storage for fruit and veg is Bee’s Wrap, small glass container with lid and plastic tupperware. The life of an apple will last 5 – 7 days. Oranges will last a month if they stay in normal heat. Carrots will last 3 – 4 weeks in the fridge. Eat before the expiration date, when laying apples down, lay on the stem side and leave in a basket where air can flow through and keep the fruit and veg fresh for a long time.
A good temperature to store dried goods is at 40°F. The ideal food storage would be plastic containers or food grade tupperware. The life of perishable foods is 3 – 2 weeks with most perishable foods Keep food covered and never put it on the bottom of your fridge.
Here is the plan I used to research before I began writing :
First I choose my three topics to write about. They were perishable foods, fresh fruit / vegetables and dry goods.
Then I wrote about dry goods I used specific topics like how to store the food and like how to what temperature should they be stored at.
After that I wrote about perishable foods and fruit / veg.
I found this task interesting because I learnt more about food safety.
I need to improve on my research.
I improved on my punctuation.
